Thread: Domino Tenon Thickness

    Domino Tenon Thickness

How thick are your 5mm Festool Domino tenons?
The latest 300 bag I bought included 130 tenons that were less than 5mm thick. Some were in the 4.7mm range. Even at 4.8mm the tenons just fall out when you turn the wood over.

I just measured a dozen 5mm Domino tenons and they ranged from 4.96 to 5.03mm. Did you purchase Festool dominos or aftermarket ones?

The only time I had any fall out was when I didn't plunge steadily and opened the mortise by slightly rocking the tool, but 4.7mm certainly seems too thin.

After 10+ years and thousands of dominoes, I've never had a single one not fit tight. If I got a bag full I would definitely consider them defective and expect then to be exchanged.

I purchased Festool tenons, not aftermarket. I just got a bad batch.

bad batch for sure. I've used thousands and they all fit perfectly. Usually tight enough that I need a pliers to pull them out.
