AD is only going to enforce their policy for heavy users (which they can see because all your work is tracked on their cloud). If you are signed up for anything, or opt to augment your "status" from hobbyist, to student, to professional, as a way to obfuscate paying they dont care. If your a low volume user they are going to leave you alone until you become engrained enough in the platform to use it on a regular enough basis for them to bounce you and then you'll pay because your already use to it and have built a bunch of parametrics that are super advantageous to you as opposed to starting over.
Its pretty much the same scam any subscription based software runs. I agree that if you have a need to stay current in perpetuity you need to pay for the service they provide. We probably pay a couple hundred a month in perpetual software alone. Sketchup being one of them (classic license).
They are all out to get you but Autodesk is one of the craftiest of them all. Beware of integrating your day to day operations with them if your not really getting your head around committing financially at some point.
