If you’re a former concrete inspector you probably already know this, but in addition to removal of all organics below the slab and proper backfill compaction; you will want to spec a low slump concrete mix on the site (such as 4.5” slump) and not let the installers add water to the mix. This will help ensure a strong slab with minimal cracking.
When I was tearing the rotting garage off this old house a few weeks ago, I was also able to break up the slab with the little 35 excavator. It was a little over 3 inches thick, but all the aggregate (stones) were on the bottom. It broke right up easily, even with that little machine.
That's what Scott was talking about. I don't even let them add water to footings.
If it absolutely has to flow, add plasticizer, not water.

I would be shocked if the plan company did not estimate the concrete required for several different type and thickness of foundation. You may to ask for them to email it to you.
