Lets see...been busy today, trying to wind down from it.....almost 3 hours IN the shop, today....trying to work that extra weight off..
Legs for the table...have been cleaned up, squared up, tapered 2 sides...round-over-ed on one outside corner...

Ok...worked about 1 hour this morning.....Clamps came off the top.....planed and sanded both faces smooth...decided this face will be the "underside"
Shaker Table Project, underside of the top.JPG
Then laid out where the legs will go....1" overhang, all the way around. Then started cutting apron blanks...
Shaker Table Project, apron start.JPG
Cut one end square, allowing for 1/2" long tenons on each end....cut a blank to length..
Shaker Table Project, 1st apron.JPG
And soon had all for blanks cut...
Shaker Table Project, 4 apron blanks.JPG
Then lay out and cut the tenons....

Hour was done. DEpending on how a football game turns out....I may head back to the shop..have mortises to chop
Stay tuned

Ok...lay out a few toys..

Lay out where the mortises will go...have 8 to do..
Shaker Table Project, mortise lay out.JPG
Chop a while, test the fit...
Shaker Table Project, almost deep enough.JPG
Chop a bit deeper..
Shaker Table Project, a hair more.JPG
Had a few "crumbs" down in the hole, shook those out. Rinse & Repeat...then a dry fit..
Shaker Table Project, mortises done.JPG
No glue, yet. Need to make 4 corner blocks, first. Spent most of the 2 hours today sitting down..
Shaker Table Project, shop stool.JPG
Had two squares set up, to do the layout work..
Shaker Table Project, 2 squares.JPG
And used the tenon to locate where the mortise needed to be.
Decided to hang up the apron...
Shaker Table Project, hang up the apron.JPG
And call it a day...at least until after Supper...maybe..
Stay tuned....Have to get things done, before Tuesday morning...

Hi Steven, sorry to hear about your recent medical issues. I hope you are feeling better.

Ripped some pine scrap down to 1 x 2s
Shaker Table Project, corner block layout.JPG
Then used a mitersaw to make a few cuts..
.Shaker Table Project, Langdon 75.JPG
until I had 4 corner blocks....
Shaker Table Project, 4 corner blocks.JPG
Then a few pilot holes and countersinks
Shaker Table Project, countersinks.JPG
Aprons were planed smooth on the show side, and a slight round-over on the bottom edge.
Then a glue up of all the parts....and quite a bit of cussing...
Shaker Table Project, base glued up.JPG
Clamps sat a day, then, drilled slotted holes in each corner block. Round-over bit was run around the edges of the top...
IMG_9999.jpg
Good side down, used a combo square to center the base..
Shaker Table Project, spacing.JPG
Added washers to each screw, and attached the base to the top..
Shaker Table Project, top installed, screws.JPG
And set things aside for a bit...and a PIP
Stay tuned, BRB..

Time to show off a bit...
Shaker Table Project, all assembled.JPG
Before the "Gunstock" stain goes on....
Shaker Table Project, top rounded over.JPG
And, after the stain was brushed on...and wiped down..
Shaker Table Project, PIP 1, stained.JPG
Just a simple, little table....
Shaker Table Project, PIP 2.JPG
Waiting on the stain to dry, before a top coat...
Stay tuned, almost done....

Just got back home this morning...Heart Cath went OK....no stents needed. So. now I am on the "DL" for a few weeks, letting the plug in the leg's artery heal up.
Maybe the first of the year, before the next project starts...
-
Good to hear you needed no stents and will be ready to go in a few weeks.
-
No stents were needed. Everything looked good, I guess. They seemed to think it may be a kidney causing the troubles.
Table has been hauled upstairs ( Grandson) and a quart of Amber Shellac has been brought upstairs....just need a place to brush on the finish...3-4 coats....and see how it looks.
Rearend is getting sore from all this sitting around....might give it a break, by using the brush.
-
1st coat is on the table.....may get #2 after a bit..
Shaker Table Project, 1st shellac coat.JPG
Will take a few more coats....
