Quick background:
I am currently building some euro style windows for my new workshop. They are not tilt/turn, but the same sort of profile, just turn in only. I am using a combination of antiquated German window hardware that my (carpenter) father had left over from a window job he did years ago (like, over 40 years ago).
Normally, Euro wood windows have an aluminum extrusion protecting the sill (picture here: http://www.pestitschek.at/fensterundtuerengraz/hrachowina-holzfenster-pestitschek-graz-oesterreich/).
The query:
I am trying to keep costs lower for these windows, and thus had planned to bend up a profile on a sheet metal break to do the same job.
My initial idea was to use some commercial door kickplates, but by the time I cut off the screw holes and cut them to length, i would need one per window (at $30 a pop!), and would be wasting nearly half of the smallest size I can find. Normal painted aluminum flatstock for trimming windows is too thin, and I'd prefer a brushed aluminum look.
The pieces I need would be roughly 4" by 25".
So... any suggestions?
