    According to the reviews it sprays paint very well which is what I was considering buying it for. Don’t know about thin stains, poly, lacquer, etc.

    My Wagner only sputters when the material I’m spraying is too thick. Forget spraying paint with it but it’s great for the thin stuff.

    Maybe I'll give the Wagner a shot with thinner finish. I thought it was for paints

    This is the one I use. It may have been replaced with a newer model.

    I've been rather happy with my $9 compressor driven HVLP gun from Hazard Fraught Tools. I will admit I have not used it for any finer finishing but a lot of deck stain, some thinned alkyd enamels and a handful of other stuff has worked quite well through it.
