Hey Folks,

i just purchased a 5620 online for what I thought was a good price. When I power-up the router, it starts up with a higher speed than selected and then quickly slows to the speed it should be running. The torque from this start-up is very noticeable in the hand. I expected a slow start-up...

Is this operation normal?

The unit did not come double-boxed, with the manufacturers box dinged pretty badly.

Mine soft starts & just ramps up to speed. Never noticed any overrun.

OK, now I need to go check . . . I have a pair of them. Both slowly ramp up to speed, no jerking during start up which is sort of the idea, yes? Mine were purchased in the mid to late 2000's.

I called Milwaukee today. A tech said it should power-up slowly.

Checked mine also. Agree with Mr. Bradley, slow ramp up and smooth. Hope you can get yours serviced. The electronics that are supposed to make all things better sometimes are frustrating when they don't work. Mine has been hanging upside down since 2008 and has worked flawlessly. Built many raised panel cope and stick doors without problems, so it can be a quality tool.

Ditto- my 5625 "Locomotive" has a smooth slow soft start - - then screams like a Turbocharged Offy blasting down the straight in front of the stands at Indy! (my God I love them memories that sound brings back!) (love the big Milwaukee too!)

You know, I always thought Milwaukee was top of the line stuff. I just replaced my Bosch combo 18v 11 yr old units with Milwaukee as both my local kids (adults really) have them. Just had to send back the 1/4" impact gun as the trigger wasn't working right, then failed completely. They replaced under warranty. Now that I am using the regular drill, even though I torque down the drillbit, after drilling about 3-4 small holes, the drill itself just falls out (literally), like I never tightened it at all....has happened 3 times now. I hope Black and Decker (or someone run by the bean counters) didn't buy them and start cutting costs...…….. Randy PS never had an issue with my Bosch units (drill, impact, Sawzall, light, "skill" saw, etc) in 11 years. Just old battery technology.
