Not much shop time today...hour here, 1/2 hour there...too many errands to run....
That Stanley No. 5-1/2 seemed to be doing more smoothing, than flattening...did a little check.
DVD Door, checking.JPG
Hmm..high in the middle? Rotate the blank 90 degrees, and go across the grain...the Stanley was a bit too heavy, so..
DVD Door, WR 62 flattening.JPG
Figured this would do the trick....
DVD Door, Flat, now.JPG
Then, added a clamp and a caul, and stashed the panel out of the way for a day or two...
DVD Door, Set aside, for now.JPG
Had a cross cut to do...
DVD Door, rail blank.JPG
to get a couple blanks for rails....and...
DVD Door, stile blank.JPG
A couple stiles...ripped on the bandsaw....was a bit tuckered out from all that plane work..
DVD Door, frame part blanks.JPG
Need to do an S4S job on these, then some grooves milled, then Mortise and tenons at the corners....to make the frame for a raised paneled Frame & Panel Door
Stay tuned...the cussing is just getting warmed up..
-
Normally, shop is closed on Mondays....got bored, Phiddle-pharted around for about an hour or so...all 4 parts for the frame have been S4S..
DVD Door, frame parts S4S.JPG
Even trimmed the rails to length...need to plough a 1/4" wide by 1/4" deep groove, next time in the shop. Rails get a 1/2" long haunched tenon. Then I can size the panel, and then make it a raised panel.
Couple items were bought today...some fancy hinges, and a new 12' Perfeormax tape measure....because, for some odd reason..the FOUR I had in the shop..last week...have gone AWOL. Hate when that happens. Maybe tomorrow, I can see about holding the parts to the bench...at least well enough for the plough plane to make a few grooves.....we'll see
Stay tuned...
-
Hmmm...grooves are done..
DVD Door, grooves done.JPG
Haunched tenons are too..
DVD Door, haunched tenons.JPG
4 mortises chopped, as well..
DVD Door, all 4 done.JPG
used these parts to cut the panel to size...
DVD Door, panel cut to size.JPG
Will try to make it a raised panel, next time in the shop. Dry fit the frame to the case..
DVD Door, which way's up.JPG
Need to figure out which way the grain should run on the panel...
1-1/2 hours IN the shop, today....kind of tired...might have got a little bit done?
Stay tuned..

Steven,
This is a very interesting post to follow. I have been gone for most of last week, and am just now catching up with things on the bulletin board. At any rate, good job and thanks.
Thanks and regards,
Stew

Panel was "raised" tonight...
DVD Door, bevel stop line.JPG
Lay out lines. I do the end grain first...then the sides..
DVD Door, 2nd bevel.JPG
A couple smooth planes for the end grain bevels..
DVD Door, all bevels done.JPG
Jack planes to do the sides...will come back tomorrow, and run the #78..
DVD Door, rebate plane.JPG
To make a rebate all around the inside of the panel....busy evening?
DVD Door, busy day shavings.JPG
You could say that. Paul Sellers uses a plane like this one..
DVD Door, sellers no. 4c.JPG
Except this is a #4c model...made in England...
IF I can get the door glued up, I might see about installing the hinges..
DVD Door, hinges.JPG
Have all day tomorrow to get a wee bit done....stay tuned...
-
Well....after all that work last night...took things a bit easier today....
DVD Door panel, groove maker.JPG
Set this up for the rebates...
DVD Door panel, groovy.JPG
So things will go easier with the rebate planes...
DVD Door panel, 1st rebate.JPG
After each one was "cleaned up" with either the Wards 78, or the Auburn Tool Co. 181...test fits were done..
DVD Door panel, old rebate plane.JPG
Then a back bevel was done...
DVD Door panel, back bevels...JPG
Panel was then sanded down a bit....then the glue came out..
DVD Door panel, glue up 2.JPG
Along with the cauls to keep things flat...
DVD Door panel, caul details.JPG
Will let this sit a day....before I clean it up, mortise for the hinges, and maybe a round-over around the edges?
Stay tuned..

Just a PIP, for now....may be more after the games are over with...Opened door view?
DVD Cabinet , PIP, inside.JPG
Then close the door...
DVD Cabinet, PIP withdoor.JPG
Hinge details, Walnut plugs, Dovetails...
DVD Cabinet, PIP, hinge and plugs.JPG
Maybe after a coat of stain?
Stay tuned...
-
Stained and a coat of amber shellac...
DVD Cabinet PIP 2.JPG
Still need a latch for this side of the door...
DVD Cabinet PIP side view.JPG
Inside has a coat of shellac....and, after all the DVD/music CDs are loaded up...
DVD Cabinet PIP, red flash, inside view.JPG
So....IF I have enough Shellac left..maybe a couple more coats? Otherwise, a clear gloss varnish is going on...and that latch....
Build might just be done....just the finishing touches are left....may take a few pictures once this thing is done, and loaded up...IF anyone wants..
BTW...there is still a 1 x 6 x 9' plank left over....wondering IF a table could be cobbled up using it?
Stay tuned...

Single Brain Cell Sketch Up is at work, designing a table....
Have at least found a handle for the door....have two sets of latches....trying to figure out HOW they work....
Clearing out the top of the table beside the computer desk....or , trying to.. May need to add a bit to the table's top....to close a couple gaps...
May just go with the shellac finish, for now...
Too much "Arm Chair Woodworking"....need to go to the shop..might even get something done?
Hardware choices?
Door Hardware, selections.JPG
Handle?
Door Hardware, handle.JPG
May set it centered in the panel? Vertically ?
2 of the latches..
Door Hardware, latches.JPG
Thinking more towards the one on the right....not sure how the other one latches....
Door Hardware, maybe.JPG
Last resort....
New home for the cabinet to sit in....once the area is cleared out...
DVD Cabinet home, maybe.JPG
So the door can open towards the right....
