    Moisten the area where the nail goes with a wet rag or sponge prior to lifting the shaving to help prevent breaking the shaving. Apology to Jim if his tutorial mentions this because I did not go through his whole thread. And again, thanks to Jim for reminding me of this technique. I had used it before Mike and it works well. I used a sharp chisel in the past, but will try a gouge the next time I do this to see if that is a better way to lift the shaving.

    Dave, anything worth mentioning is worth repeating. Though my use of a soft, high moisture wood like pine didn't need help, so it wasn't mentioned.
