    Question Regarding Framing a Wall

    Hi everyone,

Starting to plan the bar area in my basement and need a little advice. I am going to be doing a reclaimed wood wall in my basement. The wall this will be attached to is stone/concrete (foundation wall). I am going to insulate the wall and then attach 2x4s so I can mount the wood slates. I was considering laying the 2x4s flat against the wall to save space as this is a small basement. The 2x4s will not be load bearing at all, strictly for the reclaimed wood and a tv mount.

My question is, is there any issue laying the 2x4s flat against the wall as opposed to the standard perpendicular? is there a better way to go about this?

    Thanks for the help!

It's fine to lay them flat but it makes it harder to run electrical. If you bore through any of them to run romex you will have to put nail plates over each location.

Any wood that touches concrete (or stone) should be pressure treated.

Lumber yards sell firring strips, so you don't have to use 2x4's, both in 1x2 and 2x2. You can use construction adhesive against the concrete to cut down on fasteners.
