John , yes MDO is good stuff. Only drawbacks are high price, more trouble to seal edges, and slick surface. Two pieces of plywood can be
canvased at same time by putting them face to face with plastic between them. Spring clamps around perimeter. After that glue is applied
to cloth and plywood edges and stapled on the backs.

Lee, I was looking for a rectangular design say 6' or so by 3'. All wood. I'm not sure I have a preferred type base. I've got the chairs already. Like Erich, the table will be outdoors but under a patio cover and out of the rain. Location is central PA.
