Aromatic cedar finishing, without losing the smell?

Any do NOT use products to retain the smell ? Or does the smell keep on regardless ?

You cannot use any finish on an aromatic if you want it to be aromatic...that's why cedar chests and cedar closets are bare. They can occasionally be abraded with fine sandpaper to bring up the aroma if necessary.

Anything you would put on cedar to finish it would seal in the smell. I used to make cedar chests which I finished the exterior but left the interior unfinished. Still the smell won't last very long anyway. I think Lane has a sacrificial board in their cedar chests that you can tighten a screw from time to time to split the wood and let the smell out.

I looked up that stuff recently. What I found is all the cedar does is mask the smell of wool ! The moths don't hate ANY
smell. But they love the taste and aroma of wool.
