I'll give a second and third to both Bear Creek and Edensaw here in Washington State if you can't find it locally back there. I've ordered from both. Neither are the cheapest but both are top quality, high volume distributors. You will get what you paid for. Last time I checked, price locally was comparable to cherry, or more.
I remember local guys on the Olympic Peninsula here who would find a huge old growth fir log washed down by the river and ... buck it up and split it into firewood. Then again, I remember doing the same thing to cherry logs in the mountains of Virginia when I was a kid. Ouch.
