Then I needed to drill a hole to set my depth 20190818_093943.jpg

Did my hollowing with a homemade tool I call Big Bertha

Also got the piece ready to accept the cherry collar in the next step

Hi Pete...had to go hunt for pictures. Found them here on the creek. I made Bertha and the Ugly Stick many years ago so I could learn how to hollow. Both tools were used on this project.
Bertha is good for long reaches with lots of heft and leverage. The Ugly Stick was specifically made to get under the shoulder of vases and HF's.

So now I have to turn the cherry precisely to the cut in the walnut
20190818_103325.jpg
It has to be perfectly flat
20190818_104353.jpg
Then the tenon cut. This has to be a press fit to the walnut

So now I can put them together. Using the new gorilla clear glue. It fit was so tight that I had to pound it in place with a mallet

While the main body is drying, I'm going to make it a little walnut hat.
Nothing to it really ....just a small bowl. 20190818_112301.jpg

Now time to turn the main body.

Turning the neck is first. Very difficult cut.
Had to make a special little tool for this. Making the tool took 5 minutes. Turning the neck took about an hour

Now diving into the inside

Have to make sure the hat fits

Now turn it around and do the foot.

Made a little raindrop out of bullet proof glass for the hat.
