    Preparing a shop for hurricane

Just thought you might want to see what we do to get ready for a hurricane. Currently a cat 1 and passing over St. Croix, headed our way. Not too worried, but always take precautions. All machinery gets wrapped in plastic and shrink wrap. Everything is consolidated and wrapped like plywood and projects in the works. These photos were part way through preparations. 12:00 curfew approaching so we did what we could. This one turned north sooner than expected. Was supposed to miss us, but now it’s coming at us.

Stay safe Malcolm. Thoughts and prayers with you guys.

Crazy thing is is that the 11am est model shows the center tracks coming right over my head in north Florida also. We’ve had one per year for last few years now with Hermine and then Michael.

Best of luck Malcolm. We endured Michael last October. We are still cleaning up from that one. Could not imagine having to go through another. Hang tough my friend.

I was in Freeport, Bahamas the week after Michael. The watermark at the airport was over 3’ high on the walls and fences. Be alert- this one is going to be a major storm when it hits you. It is taking the worst path- through the warm waters of the Bahamas.

That sucks, but your plastic wrap job looks pretty good. Wrapping a moulder looks like an interesting process. What do you do about flooding?

I had to look up what the red fruit was. I dont know that ive ever seen or had a dragon fruit before.

Flooding isn’t much issue because the shop is a split-level and this is the top level. Down below is on a steep hill so any water runs right off. This storm was supposed to miss us, so we were not as prepared as we should have been. This should have been done yesterday.

The red dragon fruit is not as good as the white, but it sure looks cool. I don’t know what to compare it to. It’s sweet, but not a lot of flavor. The green fruit in the back are genips, which grow on a big tree this time of year and kids sell them on the street corner. Inside is like a tart peach flesh around a hard seed.

All is well. She became a Cat 1 as she passed over us. The usual wind/rain but looks like no major damage. Cell works but power still out at the moment- precautionary shut down of the grid. Great time to sharpen hand tools.
