    Water retention finish

    Hi. I have some cross sections of a cedar log that I am going to dish out for bird bath things. I may cut up some other types of wood too.
    Looking for recommendations for finishes for the bowl. Need to seal cracks, hold water and show the grain.

    Epoxy to seal the wood, then coated with marine varnish to prevent the epoxy from breaking down from UV. Or maybe just polyester boat resin. Not sure on that one.
