    Ash Bowl

Twice turned ash bowl from the outside core from July 2016. 10.5" x 4" x 5/16". Finished with walnut oil and a Beall buff.

Nice. Unusual ash. Looks a lot like some maple blanks I've had.

That's really nice. I like that small grayish/brown section and it all has really neat grain. I just finished an ash bowl last week. It came from a log I dug out of my firewood pile that had probably been sitting outside uncovered for 6+ years. I can't believe how much good wood was still inside. This is probably my favorite piece I've turned so far.

Every now and then I'll get a piece of ash with these types of mineral stains. Interesting that this piece has far more coloring than it's little brother that was the smallest core out of this blank.

Ash is ring porous--maybe maple or sweet gum?
