Thread: Clear finish for under plants, very water resistant.

Clear finish for under plants, very water resistant.

So, what's a good water-resistant clear finish for a plant stand top, or saucers. Something that can expect to get soaked a couple of times a month and stay wet maybe a couple of days.

    Aside from flex-seal of course.

Marine varnish over epoxy sealer would be a good choice.

Hmm. Epoxy could work, I seem to have a few gallons around. I can't use tempered glass, needs to be on wood, and hold minor seepage from going to floor.

*shrug* time to make some circles, route down a little and test!

And that's why some plant stands have marble tops. I could see doing a "modern" take on the Victorian designs using Corian scraps.

This. Annealed glass is fine. Cover the back with clear packing tape if you’re worried about breakage. Tempered is tough to get for most.

I've successfully used the round glass plate (the rotating plate) from an old microwave for this purpose.

I too would use glass. But if that doesn't work for you, I would use Marine Varnish. It isnt cheap - $35/quart + special thinner, last time I bought it.
