In the pictures, it looks like you can do indexing with the chuck, but that feature is not mentioned in the description or the "manual". Anyone know about that feature?

These chucks are Vicmarc clones. Yes you can do indexing.

The jaws are interchangeable.
My complaint is the chuck loosens frequently when in use. Have to continually stop, check and tighten.
Next time I’ll just bite the bullet and buy another Vicmarc.

Just curious, when tightening did you try the method of tightening a bit in one socket and then tightening a bit in the next, then repeating?

I heard one demonstrator say to tighten the chuck in "all six places." I use just a moderate force in each socket. After going around a time or two the jaws are very tight with no need for strong force. I found with this method my Nova chucks don't loosen, at least in good quality dry wood. Wet wood might need retightening as it dries and shrinks.

I think this works, especially with chuck with internal pinion gears, by taking up play between the ring and pinion gears and their bearing surfaces, distributing the friction to help prevent loosening. But if the Grizzly chuck is made with excessive internal play this method might not help.

I can't tell for sure in the photos but can a Grizzly chuck owner respond and let us know if the chuck have a set screw to secure it onto the spindle?

I have always tightened both sockets six or more times. Still loosens. My Vicmarc’s don’t loosen.

I bought one a couple of years ago. The jaws would not move freely because one jaw was binding against a bent roll pin used to guide the jaws. Poor QC, as it never should have shipped that way. I have other Grizzly tools that work fine, so I guess it is the luck of the draw. I sent mine back and bought a Vicmarc (my 5th) and am much happier..

I have two of these grizzly chucks and am satisfied with them. Fit and finish is not great but once tightened, they have not come loose. After a lot of use, I wore out a pinon gear but replacement only cost a few dollars and arrived quickly. I don't use them for indexing as I have a better set-up for that.
