    Cool Another $1 saw..

    Garage sale this morning...
    Disston backsaw. messy.JPG
Hmmmm...plate is 5" x 28". Spine has a Disston etch, label screw is a Disston

Handle does have "issues" may either repair the lower part of the handle, or, just replace it...

Gave the plate a bath in PBBlaster
    Disston Backsaw, soaking.JPG
Then used an 1-1/2" wide Defiance chisel to scrape the gunk off....started to saw an etch on the plate....
    Made expressly for...
    GOODELL PRATT COMPANY
    Toolsmiths
    GREENFIELD MA USA

Toolsmith? Plate is straight as can be. Handle seems to be the only problem...except..
    Disston Backsaw, notched.JPG
For a small notch at the toe.....

I may have a 4 bolt handle I can switch out...
We'll see....teeth seem to be fairly sharp, nothing missing.
    Stay tuned..

Was looking around, trying to find out when Disston went with the 4 bolt handles...instead of the 3 bolt one.....appears to be about..1929 catalog. back that used to be blued, is now bright plain steel.

Still trying to find out more about that "Toolsmith" logo by Goodell Pratt Company...

Also, Disston choose one location for the label bolt....Goodell Pratt used a different spot?

I don't have any spare 4 bolt handles, mine are all of the 3 bolt style....May just clean this saw up, and see who needs a Goodell Pratt saw for their mitre box...
