    shellac over dye

I've turned a 12" diameter poplar bowl which I'd like to color slightly with a Transtint dye. Am I ok to top that dye applied with Bullseye Shellac?

    Thanks for replies

Yes, but only if you spray at least the first coat. Transtint is soluble in alcohol so if you apply shellac by wiping or brushing it on it will lift some of the dye. If you want to apply shellac in that manner, then you should use a dye soluble only in water, like TransFast.
