Ruida Z axis oddities- only goes down, not up. Ideas for why would be appreciated!

    I'm having a weird moment.
From the PC, and from the RD6442G console, I can only make Z, or the bed, go down.
I can't get any up movement.

And I can't figure out why...

I have the two autofocus pens removed- whether that affects it or not I have no idea.

IN the end I got the bed back up by going into Vendor Settings, Read, then for Z, reverse polarity, Write, Exit, and then I could use the PC or the console to drive the bed back up to where I needed it.

Only the right arrow is working - the other one is as if it is not connected, as far as Z axis movement goes- from either the PC controls OR the console...

Any hints, reasonings, or real solutions would be appreciated, thanks!
    Best wishes,
    Ian

It's going to be something with the autofocus pens. If the sensor is tripped on the autofocus, it will stop the bed from going up so it doesn't hit anything. That's part of the "safety" in the autofocus as well. We have the pin on our autofocus removed too, and occasionally the slider will get stuck up and trip the sensor and the same thing happens.

Hi Ian, maybe the internal position in the controller reach the lower "limit". If you have rdworks connected via ethernet or wifi with the controller try to invert the Z axis in rdworks / vendor settings
Maybe you get more help in the rdworks forumm www.rdworkslab.com

Had the auto focus switch stick and only z would only go down

Thanks all- I have decided that maybe the bed's upper limit switch is broken, and is registering that the bed is up against it, therefore won't allow upward movement.

I was able to move it back up by going into vendor settings, and reversing polarity- but it still only worked in one direction, however it worked- implying the problem is not the steppers nor the drive, but some other signal not allowing that.

After disconnecting the limit switch- no difference.
Maybe the autofocus pens that I removed most off are the cause?

The Diagnostics menu on the console, shows a red box for Z limit, regardless of what I do.

Might have some worn or broken spots in the AF switch wiring in the drag chain, or? - any wires touching anything else may create a short or closed circuit to the controller? Any way to trace the AF wiring TO the controller, and disconnect there?

Someone suggested maybe the AF wiring might be connected to to the Z limit connector in the controller also.
I'll have a look when I get a moment, and the mood.

    Thanks

Ian, the ruida controller has internal "virtual" counters of position for the axis x,y and z. Whithout pay atention to the reason, if this counters reach the internal limits, the controller just stop
Put the head in the HOME position, press ORIGIN in the local panel, and then press the red button RESET in the same panel. The controller will reset all the counters and will go to the home position
    Try then

    Thanks, Martin.
What I actually did to solve it, was disconnect the green plug from the RD controller to the Z limit switch, and after that, the console buttons works the Z up and down perfectly.
I guess the upper limit switch must have an internal fault.

    Ian
