    Anniversaries today

The News media is making a big deal out of some tragic anniversaries today, but they do not mention the most important. April 19, 1775, The Battles of Lexington and Concord. Here is a quote from Emerson:
By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world.

    Perry,
Don't forget that Lord Byron died on this day in 1824.

A few quotes attributable to him:

"Love will find a way through paths where wolves fear to prey"

"Man, being reasonable, must get drunk; the best of life is but intoxication"

"The heart will break, but broken live on"

"There stirs the feeling infinite, so felt
In solitude, where we are least alone"

    and my favorite -

"There is pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more"

At the eastern end of the Concord Bridge is the Minuteman statue with those words in raised stone letters. I went there for the first time with my Grandfather at about age 6. He was a history buff and we visited all of the Boston area historical sights.
