    Shellac difference?

Can anyone tell me the difference between Zinsser Bullseye shellac universal "sanding" sealer (854) and universal "wood" sealer (824 H) ?

    I don't see an 854H on Rustoleum's website.

When I spoke to Rust-Oleum customer service, they said the only difference was the "wood" sealer has lower VOC's the the "sanding" sealer. Hmm!

Bullseye is a 3# cut of shellac, has wax, and is available in blonde or amber. The rule of thumb is not to use this as a sealer under finishes that might be incompatible with the wax - but I have found it fine underneath Minwax polyurethane. But it's a waste of both products, IMHO.

the 854 is the standard Sealcoat: dewaxed 1.5# cut shellac - halfway between blonde and amber: blamber? It can be used to seal wood. I use it all the time under oil based and waterbased finishes.
