    19th-century tenon saw

Wanted to offer this here before putting it on eBay: a brass-backed tenon saw by Sheffield maker Charles Gray, in excellent shape. Blade is decoratively etched "1862", which should give a general indication of its age. There's some rust on the blade, but no pitting to my eye, and a slight wobble in the handle which seems appropriate for its age. Blade is straight, with lots of room left for future filing & setting, but it cut very well through some mahogany in its current state so I'm guessing there's no immediate need. Blade has been washed of dirt with some mineral spirits, and oiled after drying with a light coat of CLP to prevent further rust, but no further restoration has been undertaken. This should clean up to be a fantastic user, or could fill a gap in a collection of tenon/Sheffield saws, as all indications are that it's fairly uncommon. Asking price is $150 or best reasonable offer, and feel free to message me with any questions.

Formerly owned by B. Doe. Too bad it wasn't J. Doe, or I would buy it to just hang on the wall.

Ha, yeah I had the same thought myself.

Honestly, everyone, I'd much rather it get lovingly restored and used by someone who appreciates it, since right now it's just gathering dust in my closet. Tax return came out in my favor and I'm a little less strapped for cash, so I'd let it go for $100. PM or email me to claim it.
