Butcher Block for Router Table Top???

Has anyone here used butcher block countertop material for a router table top?

I have a Maple 1-1/2" top (25x48") from Michigan Maple Block Company (Wood Welded) still in the box.

I'm thinking of applying a hardwax oil finish (Osmo Polyx) to all six faces and then wax the top as needed for slickness.

Or maybe just Poly the whole thing?

My shop is air conditioned & heated so humidity is fairly constant year round.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

I wouldn't. Too many variables with B-block to insure it stays flat.

I installed butcher block in a shop once, never again. It was a conditioned shop as well and the tops still moved and cupped and crowned.

I would only use a composite product, like MDF or Baltic Birch faced both sides with plastic laminate, for something critical like a router table top.

My knee-jerk reaction was "It'll never stay flat" Sounds like others experiences back that up.

I used a chunk of butcher block for my router table surface for years. My surface stayed decently flat. The biggest issue I had was that stock did not slide smoothly across the commercial finish.
