There was a giant black walnut tree just two doors down from where I lived at one time that had nothing but 3 sided walnuts. Hard nuts to crack.

So as I thought a mutant tree, they do exist! To get three in one bag suggested that. Most interesting!

Would be interesting to sprout and plant them to see I have the mutation would be passed down. Not that the world need 3 sided walnuts.

I've seen that before in English walnuts, which those appear to be.

The nuts are from California. Just in case any mutant hunters out there were wondering.

As far as I know English Walnuts are all grafted on to black walnut rootstock - in the west at least. Disease resistant. That doesn't stop the squirrels from planting dozens of them in and around our yard.
