I did all of my kitchen drawers with beech, looks very nice and no problems with machining it. Didn't stain it though, I liked the look as-is.

NOW you tell me...
I love QS American beech. One of my favorite woods to work with. The light tan/rose pink coloration and ray flecks are a shame to hide under stain. I have about 400 BF of it sitting in my garage shop, waiting for a project. $2 a board foot, straight off the sawmill, and stacked/stickered in a heated garage for two full years now.
