    Drilling 6/6 nylon

I have a 1" diameter (12inches long) nylon rod that I want to make into spacers (3/4 " high) and with a 5/8" opening holes.

The plan is to slice the rod into the 3/4" discs and then drill the discs for 5/8" holes.

Will using a 5/8" forstner bit work OK for drilling out the 6/6 nylon?

The holes have to be smooth and clean.

    Thanks

Best to do it on a metal lathe but since you don’t have one how about a wood lathe. Chuck the nylon in the chuck and drill a 3/16” or 1/4” hole first followed by the 5/8” drill bit. Search for Silver Demings drill bit. It will have a reduced shank of 1/2” to fit your tail stock chuck. Got no wood lathe? Do the same in your drill press.

No lathe of any sort...will have to go the drill press route. Thanks for the advice.

I think they will be hard to hold to drill a 5/8" hole. McMaster Carr has them in packs of 25 for $13.49. https://www.mcmaster.com/unthreaded-spacers.
