    Stickley Inspired Filing Cabinet

Just completed a filing cabinet inspired by this Stickley piece: https://www.stickley.com/OurProducts...ew=all&finish=

The overall dimensions are close, except the width, which is narrower on the piece I built. This cabinet was desinged such that standard size hanging folders fit by default. Here are some pics:

    A little closer view:

Here are is the top and the bottom drawer front from a different angle:

The file hangers were made from aluminum flat bar:

Bearing side drawer slides were used. Also, the fronts were applied as this allowed a bit of adjustability.

Beautiful work Chris. What finish did you use on it? I really like the rich color tone.

Now there's a filing cabinet you would never hide. A very solid look and great coloration.

Thanks all for the kind words.

I used the finish schedule perscribed by Jeff Jewitt in the this document: http://homesteadfinishingproducts.com/stickley.pdf
He also has a nice video to accompany the document: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9VbZxDBu-E

I didn't use any of the exact combination of colors he had in his document, but ended up with the below. I first tried a sample of the “Onondaga” in the document, but it was a little too red. Next I did a sample with the same dye, but Antique Walnut Gel Stain, and my wife liked it better. There was another positing on someones blog that I saw that used this color combination, and the posted pictures looked good.

TransTint Brown Mahogany diluted at 1 oz dye to 1 qt.
    General Finishes SealACell Sealer.
General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain.
    Arm-r-seal.

For the drawer boxes, I sprayed with General Finishes High Performance Top Coat.

Very nice. This is something I would like to build for my new office.

Curious if you considered fuming the white oak?

Thanks. I did give fuming a thought...and a little research. I have done one shop project where I ebonized the wood, so the idea of fuming was appealing. I read some articles that indicated that fuming could yield results that varied a lot in the coloration, especially using different species or boards from different trees. Since I did not want to spend too much time experimenting, I opted for the finish schedule I posted above.
