    Very smart - shortening the handle! What are you using and how effective is it?

    I keep thinking about getting a detector. I've GOT to start using free(ish) wood.

  3. I don't know of anyone who will take a tree from a residential lot for lumber. They go directly into the chipper. The power companies will cut a tree up into firewood sized chunks out in the rural areas to leave by the side of the road but even they will not risk a chain by making extra cuts from city/ suburbia trees.[/QUOTE]

    Urban logging is quite common here in alberta, we have our turning meetings at a local company who harvests pretty much only urban trees, it's amazing the amount, and variety of trees they process.
    If only we had more natural trees than trembling Aspen and spruce.
