    Drawer Depth

Rarely do I make a drawer deeper than 3". Much better to make more shallow drawers, especially for tools. My 17 drawer tool cabinet has a deep drawer for power tools and one for planes, and a few mid depth for hardware etc, but most are 2" to 3" deep for everything else. My desk has 11 drawers, 3 of mid depth and one deep, 7 are shallow.

    Clothing drawers are the exception.

It's good to make drawers to size when you know what the end use will definitely be. If the item has a generic end use or is for someone else, it's a good idea to make drawers generous. There is nothing more frustrating than being unable to get a drawer closed or open because something is sticking up just a bit too far. Cheers
