I think its good to try different tooling. Im not honesty sure why it would be advantageous to use a compression where its not profitable. Mortising with a compression bit (pocketing out boxes) is typically done because the time lost to a tool change is more costly than the wear on a tool thats not really the best for the job. Edge profiling of solid material can be done just as well with a single spiral (up or down if you need a shearing cut) or a straight cutter. Pocketing mortises is done far better and far cheaper with a purpose built tool (bottom cutting edges, and slight rad on the corners). A compression bit will often leave pretty evident trace marks from its sharp corners because even mortising compression bits are intended to make dado's where the floor is not critical.

You can use whatever tool floats your boat but our compressions are about $100 a shot. We can buy brazed two flutes for less than 1/3 that cost and bottom clearing tools for 1/3-1/4 the price.
