    I only ask because where I live the stairs cannot be less than six inches wide and your open risers you cannot have a 4" sphere pass thru them

    A beautiful set of stairs you have built there

    I'm not familiar with American elm but I have used grey elm and it has a fantastic grain .. very chatoyant and takes stain well.

    That staircase is so graceful. ..Just as you say, clean lines and open. The ogee in the hand rail and the string wall exemplify its grace. Congratulations on a laborious job well done. I love it.

    Those stairs are so beautiful and mesmerizing. Hopefully noone gets too mesmerized climbing them and falls down them.

    It's about 150km away so I'm not swinging by regularly to admire it.
