    re purposing the old lathe

Been a productive night in the shop re purposing my old harbor freight 12x36 lathe. I used the head stock to make a 12 inch soon to be 16 inch disc sander. I used the quill in the tail stock as an adjustment dial in a slicing jig for my bandsaw.

Be sure you do some periodic maintenance to your drive system on the lathe. The Reeves drive system those lathes use need to have the shaft that the pullys slide on are lubricated and free of dust and gunk. If you let them dry out or get too full of dust the force of the handle during a speed change will break the cast pullys and they will break and have to be replaced.

Hope you enjoy your new sander, looks good.

I built a port for my dust collector to connect to below the disc to keep down the dust. I have no plans of ever adjusting the speed again so the pulleys shouldn't be a problem
