Never thought it would be this nice?

I have had this roughed out ash platter in the garage since 2015. Finally decided to give it a spin. It had a crack on the rim that I filled with a sliver of walnut bark. There was some minor cracking and some missing wood from the knot on the bottom side. I glued chips of walnut in the openings of the knot and filled the voids with walnut sanding dust. It finished out at 19 1/2” and about 1 1/2” deep. Rim is about 2” wide. Finish is wipe on poly.

That shows that you don't always need fancy burl or exotic wood to make something great. Good clean design and a nice finish make this a winner.

That's a great profile for a fine piece of wood, Bob.

Thanks all. This tree was a good 28” in diameter. Some of those growth rings are 1/2” to 3/4.
