    Bandsaw TPI

I'm taking on my first bandsaw box for a granddaughter. The stock is five layers of Peruvian Walnut glued up with an effective depth of cut of 4¾”. The tightest curves require a 3/16” blade.

I have a 3/16” Starrett Duratec SFB with 10-tooth pitch. I was concerned 10 TPI may be too fine in pitch for that depth of cut. Can I feed slow enough for that blade to work or should I go looking for something with a more coarse pitch?

    Thanks,

I use a 1/4" 14 tpi blade for band saw boxes with depths larger than that, and it works very well. Feed speed needs to be very slow, but you get a smooth cut that doesn't need a ton of sanding.

Make a test cut and then make your mind up. Remember, a wood worker never passes up an opportunity for a new toy.

After all, it is for a grand daughter. One of my grand daughters lived 1/2 mile from our house. Grandpas dote on grand kids.

Yes: Go slow but the finish will be worth it.
