What planer gears for Powermatic 209 HH

What gears are you using?
Planer comes with extra gears to change speed to 16/20 fpm. Now it is set to 24/31 fpm and it seems fast.

Because I'm alone and chasing the stock on both ends, I like the slower settings. Might wear knives a little faster but I still prefer it, particularly on lighter duty machines. Dave

I run the slower gears, too. The faster gears seemed to fast for certain woods. I switched to the slower gears when I had a bunch of hickory to plane and never switched back. It gives me better control and seems easier on the machine.

I'll switch to slower gears. You have to be moving fast when planing short stock.
