Okay, I give up. What's to explain?
Life's too short to use old sandpaper.
It puzzles me too, what's to see?
Let me guess, why does, I assume your neighbor, store their garbage and recycling containers in the front yard making the neighborhood look like a junk yard?
You're looking straight into the direction the wind was coming from, and there was a vehicle parked over that unmelted spot in the driveway.
Is there a prize for the correct answer?
It looks like the dog is puzzled also.
You are Fox Mulder and I claim my five pounds.
Yoga class makes me feel like a total stud, mostly because I'm about as flexible as a 2x4.
"Design"? Possibly. "Intelligent"? Sure doesn't look like it from this angle.
We used to be hunter gatherers. Now we're shopper borrowers.
The three most important words in the English language: "Front Towards Enemy".
The world makes a lot more sense when you remember that Butthead was the smart one.
You can never be too rich, too thin, or have too much ammo.
The itty little bitty snow?
Give us a hint.
Animal, vegetable or mineral?
--the patch of snow still on the driveway from a brief snowstorm before sun-up. Nowhere except for a few spots on a few roofs does any snow remain, yet there's nearly 1/2" there on the driveway-- why won't it melt?

--there's no more or less ice melter been thrown there than anywhere else... and the last thing parked there was 17 hours before...

I assume the cement in that spot is a LOT thicker such that the thermal mass below and surrounding that spot is that much further away . . . . .
Different thermal mass and possible exposure to air currents due to location could explain it.
On our home, our drive way onto the carport is on the north side of our home. This time of year, the sun is so low in the southern sky and the air currents can whistle between our home and the attached carport sometimes. That area is the last to have snow melt off.
