Using Mixol to create blood red color...

Has anyone tried this? If so, what's the formula and base/medium you used.

I've successfully dyed a Christmas gift out of hickory to a "Boomer Sooner Crimson" for my Oklahoma niece. Used Transtint liquid dye dissolved in a very thin (1/2# cut) shellac using ethanol. Top coated it with a heavier shellac. Came out brilliant red.

I love Transtint dyes. They don't fade over time, and you mix and match colors to get any shade you want. The colors are very vibrant. And they can be applied with denatured alcohol or added to many finishes.

Thanks Ted. I believe I have some red Transtint somewhere.
