    US Bureau of Geographical Names

In the infinite knowledge of the US Federal Government, deep within the US Geological Survey, there is a Bureau on Geographical Names. Every place in the US that is anything and has an official or unofficial name is listed there. And there is a search feature. So if you want to know if there is a place in the US called Carefree, or First National Bank (yes they both exist). you can check it out there. along with Rabbit Hash KY, Virginville, PA, Hardscrabble De, Witch Creek Church, AL, Asses Ears, AK and other delights. For instance, there are 199 places with the word Rehoboth in the name.. Enjoy!

Don't know if there is a similar government department in Canada but I do know there is a place in Ontario called Punkeydoodles Corner and a place in Newfoundland called Come By Chance and a place in BC called Point No Point.

I did a search on a local feature that I figured was a made up thing, nope it's on there! Squaw Tit, a summit in Sheridan County Nebraska. Wow, pretty impressive Nebraska....

On the Washington coast just across the Columbia River from Oregon are Dismal Nitch and Cap Disappointment. The are along the Lewis and Clark Trail.
