    End of year bargain

Yesterday I saw a set of five Stanley Everlasting chisels on the big auction site for $5,125 buy it now.
    Shipping is $13.65

I sent the seller a message asking if he'd do free shipping as he's asking that much, but he replied that no, he's sorry but there's no free shipping.

I should probably not rush into this purchase.

    Advice welcome.

That's too funny. He actually had the gumption to say no free shipping at that price?

I wonder if he'd sell them to me on layaway. I mean, it is Christmastime.

After checking his other items it seems he is the kind of guy that wants to find the one sucker looking to buy.

Doesn't ebay charge a fee to list based on the starting price?

Mark, I would offer him $5111.35 and pay the shipping

Out of curiosity (absolutely no interest in buying), what is the market value for these chisels?

    That's indeed a big auction.

    Derek,

Looking at the sold auction prices to see what folks will actually pay for the chisels shows that most of them sell for between $30 and $40 per chisel, which includes the shipping. This would bring the typical value of the 5 chisels to about $200, but some groups of the chisels seem to have sold for up to $50 per chisel, which would bring the value of the 5 chisels up to about $
