I thought that was a great story! I also thought the sound of the guitar is AMAZING.

Great story. Reminds me of "The Tree" - the legendary quilted mahogany that is still being made into guitars. I remember when the article came out in FWW back in the mid 80's when I majored in furniture design at RIT. I actually saw a couple guitars like this one in person when I exhibited at NAMM last year. Unreal wood. heres an article about it - http://acousticguitar.com/welcome-to-the-jungle/

Since I'm on this post, I might as well post the latest of my version of "The Tree" - Quilted Carbon Fiber. Just refaced this Jackson guitar with it. Will debut at NAMM this year, as Acacia Guitars did a guitar with it. Martin (yes, THE Martin guitar company) is planning a visit to my shop when I ramp up to my production molds. jackson-clsp-face.jpg

I know a few builders using it.
They're charging for more than some Brazilian rosewood as an upcharge.

To be fair, the "tree" pieces are $600-800 per set.
