I have a wood/coal stove in my shop and this very nearly made it as kindling. It was bandsawed out and about 1/4” thick. I used part of it as a demo for burning texture. Anyway I took to it, thinned it out added ripples then burned it moderately at about 80 lines per inch. I have done near 200 / inch . Paint is acrylic of 6-8 coats ( very thin and watery so not to fill the burn lines) a satin finish with gloss on the center .

carved /painted it yesterday and it’s in the mail today.

Thanks. It’s a throwback to my beginnings as a carver doing only wildfowl.

Mark that is the best carved feather I’ve ever seen! Love the detail! May I ask you what wood burner do you use?
    Merry Christmas.
