Thread: Engraving Aluminum Alloy

    Question Engraving Aluminum Alloy

I have a customer requesting engraving on aluminum alloy which is painted red. Is there any chance I will be able to engrave this without Cermark. I was hoping to engrave through the red to reveal the silver but I have a feeling that I may not be able to laser through it with a 35 watt laser. Thoughts??...

    The product specifically is this.
    Epilog 35 Watt Mini 12" x 24"
    New Hermes V3400
    Kwikprint 55
    CorelDraw 2017, Illustrator, Photoshop

I could be wrong, but I suspect those are anodized and no paint is involved.

It says they are color coded anodized for easy identification. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to engrave them.

For what it's worth- those nice brass badges I get from Engraving Specialties? My 80w Triumph will do nothing more than 'polish' the clearcoat that's on them, which I assume is lacquer. It will not ablate it, vaporize it--if I go slow enough it'll darken it some. My intent was to try Cermarking them. Fail--

Enamel or water based acrylic, maybe...

Yay, it worked! I was figuring it might be similar to anodized aluminum. Size 9 pt font. Picture doesn't do it justice. Looks better in person.
