    Yay!!

    im glad you have a plan. Still, it seems weird that the motor would be so hard to replace. I was going to suggest renting one of those engine hoists and using the lift rods.

    Montgomery Ward hand saw
    Wood handled [cracked] screw driver
    [2 ]4 year old sheets of 60 grit aluminum oxide sandpaper

    Phil,

    Thank you for the advice to involve my Woodcraft dealer. I was in daily contact with my local Woodcraft manager and he was working with Powermatic behind the scenes providing input and helping formulate a joint Powermatic / Woodcraft solution.

    Too late to help but- - The PM planer appears to have side access panels which should work to remove the motor. I have a Shop Fox which is similar that I replaced the motor on when it was new and it wasn't a super big deal. The motor weighs a hundred pounds so some wrestling is required but as I recollect it only took about an hour. The SF panels are on the front and rear so I don't know how that would affect things but it shoud be pretty doable.
