Finishing cypress

I posted a question yesterday asking what finishes were used on cypress, the post just disappeared, whot happened?
Did I do something wrong with the posting, was the question to dumb to be answered, Anyway I still would like to have
some suggestions or discussion of what to use, thanks for anyone's interest.

It would be nice if you could figure out what species you have. There are a half dozen or more from North America that are called cypress locally: some from the genus Cupressus, southwest, some from Taxodium southeast, some from Chamaecyparis, ​northwest and east coast. Do you know where the trees grew?
