Boat steering wheel mod - a challenging project

A man is rebuilding the mahogany boat his father built 25 years ago and asked if I could add a removable cap on the steering wheel that would hold a keepsake urn pendant, in memorial of his father. He saw the urns with threaded brass inserts I make and thought it could be adapted. I love a one - off job like this. The spacer was broken and after replacing it, I wondered how to make it adjustable. Over time, the lid might creep to the right as it closes, if the receiving threads are not glued in the spacer and held in place by the friction fit of the allen screws - it becomes adjustable. A lot of carving with a dental drill made a bed for the cross to sit. The mahogany was left unfinished as he wants to fill the urn, glue it in place and use the same finish he is using in the rebuild.
PS, Not sure how to fix the orientation of my pictures yet, guess it will make you feel like you on the other side of bench, another challenge for me...

Nice job and a fitting tribute to the boat builder.
