Other than this covid thing I’m happy to do whatever you. Well regarding this part as it just pushes on and off.

Explain a bit better what you want me to do arrange a place local to me to do it if a third party need be involved and get them paid. I’ll get to them with the part so they can scan it or whatever.

I believe I know of a place in wester mass that still does castings if that helps. I do t have their contact but my uncle whom is into antique cars has mentioned them to me.

Again I’m locked down 100 % till this is over thought so I won’t be doing this anytime soon.

I’ve been on a bit of a Mccmaster tear this past couple weeks tending to my t23 shaper. For months now I have been wanting to get the t75 off it’s pallet and onto leveling feet. I’ve been lamenting the process is it require I cut the pallet away under the saw while it sits on a pallet jack. A combo of a multi master and saws all was the plan and honestly I was nervous as one slip and I’d loose my crap if I threw a blade into mother paint.

Well I got to it today and wouldn’t you know my fein tool feinally “get it” died after all these years. I was forced to carefully finish the job with a saws all only.


Outrigger table is off the saw as part of it is back with Brian be reworked a bit.

Thanks for the replies guys I will get the largest blade I can for the saw that will still go below the table. Should have it assembled next week while the motor is being rebuilt. Going to run oil lines and a manual pump next week too.

Will let you know the progress. If either of you come across a crank handle or have the ability to CMM one I would pay you for the cad file and make a model to have one cast

You live in Massachusetts..... yea you are on a total lock down down. Can you order bearings ect. and have them delivered to keep working on your t23? I sure hope so you will be able to get a lot done during this time. Did you keep track of the hours you have put into your T75? You may not to know. again it is something . And yes this saw has me pretty excited.

Well having the arm or lever directly cast would be the most straight forward way to have it made. Thank you for the offer. lets stay tuned and see how this SARS/CCP virus plays out.

as far as blades go I have been committed to Forrest for a long time. Do you have any other brands that you have had good results with? Kanefusa has a reputation of producing very high quality cutting tools and saws. Buy I have not bought any of their blades. You have and experience with their tooling?

So I realized that I did not fully respond to your prior questions.

Mostly with regard to my handwheel of the the t75 being at the plater. The hang up is two fold, one being the never ending money pit I made this project. And the other being that the plater I use is via and second or third hand through a uncle of mine. The part tends to sit on his desk for weeks to months till he also has enough car parts to warrant a trip to the plater. The plater he uses is a old guy “whom doesn’t even do the playing himself” but who knows subs it to his grandkid or something.

No chrome for me I went nickle as I prefer it. If you look through my pictures you will see I have had every part Martin originally plated chrome re plated nickle plus some they did not plate.

Yes we are in lockdown and sadly my home has been a revolving door of deliveries tending to my shaper. I’m half nuts about it as I fully suit up remove everything fro its packages and boxes outside, clean everything with a disinfectant then leave them outside for a few days. Same with the groceries other than leave them outside. Those just get disinfected, then washed, then dried the. The whole dam house disinfected then cleaned. Last night the groceries “delivered” took 2 hours to tend to including a shower after all the cleaning.

But I got new spindle and motor bearings. The crux has been the oil delivery system/pump to the spindle. I’m also there, when I am you will all get a full update over on my t23 thread.

Let’s see if I have a picture of sext $350 baselite bearing for everyone. Not that $350 makes them sext. Actually makes me wanna puke, life is just way to da expensive.

Hang in there we will all get through the CCP virus. I have looked at all the posts front to back That is why I say it is remarkable. I guess I could not tell in the photos if your parts were Chromed or nickel looks amazing though.If you are only Nickel plating and not chrome plating you can easily do that your self. The tough part is getting the surface stripped, prepped de-greased and flawless so you have a good finish when done. I have made my own nickel acetate solution for plating and have plated some vintage car and truck parts as well as small ornamental items. Nickel is used under the Chrome to give the Chrome an good bond and a better surface.

I am aware nickel plate is what under chrome and that chrome was once referred to as triple coat.i did only learn this through the process of this project though so I really don’t know much beyond that.

I just like the warmth of the nickle so that’s what I went with. I’m crazy unpractical. If it wears off I’ll just have those arts redone. I really doubt it but if something bothers me that bad that’s just how I am. I totally don’t understand frugality.

When the time comes again I’ll pick your brain as I have been pretty much disappointed by whomever has been doing my work. I’m stupid picky though so o can’t tear into them that bad. It’s just of it’s me and it’s not perfect I’ll redo it till it is. Or just take the excessive amount of time to get it right the first time

Yea I got it from my Grandfather. He was a graduate of the one room 6th grade school house. Was intuitive and full of common sense. Would look at something and in short order figure out what had to be done. Anything that required fix it skills forget it dune deal. Blacksmith, machinist welder ,wood worker. construction Gardner whatever flat out perfect every time But it made him miserable to sometimes go through the process.
It taught me to reach for perfection but I fortunately can dial it back a bit when needed and convince myself it is okay. But knowing there is a difference makes it kinda hard to swallow sometimes. I always figured if I could satisfy myself everyone else would be pretty. easy
Yea it is hard to get work done that meets your expectations. They always get angry and ask you to leave like wanting something done right is a problem, So for the most part I have always done it myself, whatever it was rather pay someone and be pissed off


PS DO you have the color mix numbers and are you pretty confident that the color us used is the original? I guess it doesn't really matter because it i looks great.

You are right about the perfect/vrs misery part. I have just come to accept about myself that part my experience as a human has been suffering.

I pretty much take no joy in a thing if it is not hard earned and dos not inflict some sort of suffering to succeed. Honestly I am probably this way to the extreme. Relative to mist I know I am.

As for the color yes I have the exact number shot and matched in DuPont Emron high gloss. My guess is it is not exact and sheen will affect the tone.

If you want it and or a side by side picture of it to my t23 I am happy to provide both. Honestly it’s slightly different but different in a way I would ha dis down 100% repeat if to ever fully restore the t23.

On the t23 front it’s fully up and running. Just set up the lock miter for 7/8 material and I off to the races. It was what I would call a full mechanical rebuild. Motor bearings, spindle bearings, speed indicator lights and the most complicated a rebuild and re-engineering of the oil delivery system. It’s pretty slick now and man what a sweet sweet machine it is.

I fully hope someday to give it the love I gave the t75. It’s not happening anytime soon though.

On a t75 front I got word from the plater today. Or rather the middle man my uncle. I guess my stuff is ready. They stripped the chrome off to find the nickle was so thick they could just polish it out. Would be exciting but I’m not leaving my house to go get it. Beyond that I also have to prep and painT the two individual handwheel pieces before I instal them. And yes they had to be painted after platting but it seems you get that much, probably ore than me.

Hopefully I can get pictures. Now I just gotta get on the laser etch cnc place to finish reproducing my scales for the handwheels and I’m done. Bet that takes another 6-12 months with all gong on. But you know I can put those on after the machine is up and running go so I’m not very worried about those. I never trust a miter angle gauge on a saw anyway other than 90 and 45%..

Glad your 23 is choochin along. That is a happy spot in all this mess! I just called to order a bunch of hardwood and my sawyer/ kiln supplier is down.... Got a little Hard Maple and 300 or so BF of 5/4 cherry. Unless I can find some somewhere else looks like that's it for now.
Went and picked up the t75 today at the freight terminal with my trailer. Got it taken out of the crate and hoisted to the floor. Going to take the motor out and put new bearings in. Hopefully get that done and assembled by Thursday with new oil lines and manual pump so I can see what else it needs to be usable. Hope you are happy with your hand wheel when you get it back.

What do you have above that can handle that lift?

Luckily if trapped in the house I’ll never have the lumber problem you are having. As you can see in the background of my shop I have a lumber collecting problem. It would take me years to use it all at this point. Hones,ty that’s the plan. To have a secret retirement stash so i dont have to worry about it when I’m broke.

So the handwheel. I got a few pics sent to me by my uncle. The backstory I got was they striped the chrome off the top and decided on tow things. First the nickle below was or is so thick they decided they could just polish it and get it pretty nice. Second that being so thick it would be a bitch to get off as to be able to replace with nickle.

So my uncle knows how picky I am. He sends me the first two pictures and I think hmm, not perfect but at this point and for the price it’s good enough. Who knows what the future holds for me in the coming weeks.

I can see scratches in it that got plated over the first time and you know that does not make me happy at all but other than those it looks,s very bright and pretty nice so I’m thinking hmm ok done I guess.

Then I remember that the parting was worn through to the brass near the cone shaped handwheel and I think hmm better ask for a photo of that area.

So now I thinking are you kidding me. Why the hell did you even ask me being my uncle and full well knowing how dam picky I am. Blows my mind as this guy is into teens and 20’s Pierce Arrow Motor Cars. He has more money than god “not like bill gates” but but owns like 5-8 of these $250k-500k a paid for commercial commercial property worth like 5 million bucks and this crap would never pass on one of his cars. He actually remembered to himself as middle class to me today and us in the same economic class lol..

Anyway rant over I just don’t get people with such a low standard. Especially when the low standard is good enough for everyone else but would never fly for their own.

So back to the plater it goes. Next time I keep family out of it and find someone who when I ask for a A+++ job as I did gives me what I want when I say it costs what it costs..

My baby got some new kicks. Man this project is just taking forever. Three steps forward two steps back nearly every step of the way to get a finished product of such a high left of fit finish and function. I’ll be happy I was patient when I can finally use it.

Been waiting to pull the trigger on these feet fir months now. Had to cave as I’m working from home and needed to stager the height of my machines due to some very large stuff I’m building.

What a disappointment on the hand wheel. My favorite excuse is "I was just trying to save you some money" AKA it is a pain in my asX and don't want to do it right. Got a question for you .Can you tell me the belt size you have for your saw? Mine does not have one and I am not sure how to measure for a new one. Where did you get the "kicks" They are a really good Idea to keep the base off the floor.

Glad to hear you got your shaper up and running. But how are you working if your not leaving the house? I know your not doing cabinets anymore so not sure how your current work is classified, but cabinetmakers are supposedly in the exempt list believe it or not. My problem is theres just not much work right now. Spent half my day pulling the tensioning cylinder out of my wide belt for a full rebuild. Then drove to a repair shop in Clinton to drop off so they can order the proper seals I need. No time to wait out the virus, I'd have to close the shop and live in the woods if I did that
