Frank, I understand and respect your bias against them, but there are millions of them operating in homes across America. The worst of them are the gas logs and fireplaces imho. There are many more people killed annually with malfunctioning vented appliances than with ventless. There are plenty of problems with ventless, but most are meathead induced.

Every shop that has ANY KIND of fuel heat should have a CO Detector Installed! Seldom are shops air tight, with roll up doors being the biggest contributor to the leaks of outside air.. In northern climates where heater would run most all the time, they may not be best choice. Those who have garage workshop, with a gas water heater located within are at a much greater danger of CO poisoning than with a vent free heater. After a couple deaths in hotels from CO poisoning, we ask for a room as far away from laundry or pool heater as possible, plus we carry a battery operated CO detector in our bags.
